Gloves Price in China Falls 9% to $2.3 per Pair
China Gloves Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the gloves price stood at $2.3 per pair (FOB, China), declining by -8.9% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a resilient increase from January 2022 to September 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +6.4% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, gloves export price decreased by -8.9% against August 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 when the average export price increased by 39% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $2.5 per pair in August 2022, and then declined in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($3.8 per pair), while the average price for exports to Croatia ($0.1 per pair) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+21.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Gloves Exports
In September 2022, overseas shipments of gloves, mittens and mitts (excluding knitted or crocheted) decreased by -12.2% to 28M pairs, falling for the second month in a row after five months of growth. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a temperate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 with an increase of 64% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 37M pairs in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, gloves exports dropped markedly to $65M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 with an increase of 47% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 84M pairs in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
China Gloves Exports by Country
The United States (7.7M pairs) was the main destination for gloves exports from China, accounting for a 27% share of total exports. Moreover, gloves exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (3M pairs), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Japan (2.4M pairs), with an 8.6% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+6.6% per month) and Japan (+13.0% per month).
In value terms, the United States ($19M) remains the key foreign market for gloves exports from China, comprising 30% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($8.4M), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with a 6.4% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to the United States stood at +9.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Japan (+16.2% per month) and Canada (+22.8% per month).
