U.S. Cherry and Sour Cherry Export Price per Ton June 2022
In June 2022, the cherry and sour cherry price per ton stood at $10,415 (FOB, US) in June 2022, growing by 27% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated prominent growth from January 2022 to June 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +9.5% over the last five months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2022 figures, cherry and sour cherry export price increased by +57.5% against January 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 an increase of 34% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in June 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($12,761 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($7,939 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+27.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Cherry and Sour Cherry Exports
After two months of growth, shipments abroad of cherries and sour cherries decreased by -30.2% to 6.3K tons in June 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 with an increase of 5,710% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at 9.1K tons in May 2022, and then dropped sharply in the following month.
In value terms, cherry and sour cherry exports reduced to $66M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2022 when exports increased by 7,677% month-to-month. The exports peaked at $74M in May 2022, and then contracted in the following month.
U.S. Cherry and Sour Cherry Exports by Country
Canada (2.6K tons) was the main destination for cherry and sour cherry exports from the United States, with a 41% share of total exports. Moreover, cherry and sour cherry exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Korea (1.1K tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Japan (630 tons), with a 9.9% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Canada totaled +80.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: South Korea (+135.0% per month) and Japan (+136.4% per month).
In value terms, the largest markets for cherry and sour cherry exported from the United States were Canada ($24M), South Korea ($14M) and Japan ($6.8M), together accounting for 69% of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese), China, Vietnam and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.
Among the main countries of destination, Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +342.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
