In value terms, ceramic sanitary ware exports stood at $2.1B (IndexBox estimates) in 2017. The total exports indicated a prominent growth from 2007 to 2017: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2017 figures, the ceramic sanitary ware exports increased by +93.2% against 2009 indices. The level of exports peaked in 2017, and are expected to retain its growth in the near future.

Exports by Country


China represented the key exporter of ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures in Asia, with the volume of exports accounting for 78M units, which was approx. 75% of total exports in 2017. Turkey (12M units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Thailand (6.5M units). All these countries together occupied approx. 18% share of total exports. In value terms, China ($1.3B) remains the largest ceramic sanitary ware supplier in Asia, comprising 61% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Turkey ($231M), with a 11% share of global exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 8.7% share.

The ceramic sanitary ware export price in Asia stood at $20 per unit in 2017, dropping by -2.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2007 to 2017, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%.

Export prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest export price was India ($48 per unit), while China ($16 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2017, the most notable rate of growth in terms of export prices was attained by India (+12.1% per year), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2017, ceramic sanitary ware imports in Asia stood at 33M units, growing by 4% against the previous year. The total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2007 to 2017: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2017 figures, the ceramic sanitary ware imports increased by +3.8% against 2014 indices.

In value terms, ceramic sanitary ware imports totaled $1.6B (IndexBox estimates) in 2017. The ceramic sanitary ware imports continue to indicate a remarkable expansion. The level of imports peaked in 2017, and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country


In 2017, South Korea (7.5M units), distantly followed by Japan (2.6M units) and India (2.2M units) were the major importers of ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures, together making up 37% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (1.5M units), Saudi Arabia (1.4M units), Malaysia (1.4M units), Nepal (1.3M units), Pakistan (1.2M units), Viet Nam (1.2M units), China (923K units), China, Hong Kong SAR (844K units) and Sri Lanka (840K units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2007 to 2017, average annual rates of growth with regard to ceramic sanitary ware imports into South Korea stood at +11.7%. At the same time, Nepal (+55.5%), Viet Nam (+26.1%), Malaysia (+18.7%), India (+12.0%), Pakistan (+11.1%) and China (+9.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nepal emerged as the fastest growing importer in Asia, with a CAGR of +55.5% from 2007-2017. Saudi Arabia, Japan, China, Hong Kong SAR and the United Arab Emirates experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Sri Lanka (-2.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (-1.7%), Pakistan (-2.3%), Viet Nam (-3.2%), Malaysia (-3.5%), Nepal (-3.8%), India (-4.4%) and South Korea (-15%) decreased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($205M), the United Arab Emirates ($196M) and South Korea ($151M) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2017, together comprising 34% of total imports. Japan, India, Viet Nam, China, China, Hong Kong SAR, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Nepal and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

Import Prices by Country


In 2017, the ceramic sanitary ware import price in Asia amounted to $48 per unit, surging by 21% against the previous year. The import price indicated a strong growth from 2007 to 2017: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2017 figures, the ceramic sanitary ware import price decreased by -0.4% against 2015 indices.

Import prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest import price was Saudi Arabia ($143 per unit), while Pakistan ($7 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
