Canadian Power Tool Price Raised by $121 per Unit

Canada Power Tool Import Price in February 2023

In February 2023, the power tool price amounted to $121 per unit (CIF, Canada), growing by 4.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 an increase of 28% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in February 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In February 2023, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($171 per unit), while the price for China ($95.1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Canada Power Tool Import Prices by Type

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplied products. In February 2023, the product with the highest price was saws for working in the hand, with self-contained electric motor ($134 per unit), while the price for drills of all kinds for working in the hand, with self-contained electric motor ($112 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by saws for working in the hand, with self-contained electric motor (+1.1%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

Canada Power Tool Imports

In February 2023, the amount of power tools imported into Canada fell to 546K units, shrinking by -10.1% compared with the month before. In general, imports showed a mild decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when imports increased by 42% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 978K units. From April 2022 to February 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, power tool imports dropped to $66M (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. Over the period under review, imports saw a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 46% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of $110M. From April 2022 to February 2023, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Canada Power Tool Imports by Type

In February 2023, in-hand motor grinders, sanders and planers (394K units) constituted the largest type of power tool supplied to Canada, accounting for a 72% share of total imports. Moreover, in-hand motor grinders, sanders and planers exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, saws for working in the hand, with self-contained electric motor (95K units), fourfold.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of in-hand motor grinders, sanders and planers totaled -1.7%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: saws for working in the hand, with self-contained electric motor (-1.4% per month) and drills of all kinds for working in the hand, with self-contained electric motor (-3.6% per month).

In value terms, in-hand motor grinders, sanders and planers ($47M) constituted the largest type of power tool supplied to Canada, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by saws for working in the hand, with self-contained electric motor ($13M), with a 19% share of total imports.

Canada Power Tool Imports by Country

In February 2023, China (303K units) constituted the largest power tool supplier to Canada, accounting for a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, power tool imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (79K units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Vietnam (77K units), with a 14% share.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at -3.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Mexico (-3.0% per month) and Vietnam (+4.8% per month).

In value terms, China ($29M) constituted the largest supplier of power tool to Canada, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($13M), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Mexico, with a 15% share.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value from China totaled -2.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+4.0% per month) and Mexico (-3.1% per month).
