Canada's Frozen Pork Cut Prices Slight Decrease to $1,921 per Ton
Canada Frozen Pork Cut Export Price in December 2022
In December 2022, the frozen pork cut price amounted to $1,921 per ton (FOB, Canada), declining by -1.5% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 an increase of 12% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,951 per ton in November 2022, and then reduced slightly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was the United States ($3,215 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($1,518 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Canada Frozen Pork Cut Exports
In December 2022, exports of frozen hams, shoulders and cuts of pig meat from Canada soared to 10K tons, with an increase of 82% against the month before. Overall, exports, however, recorded a slight decline.
In value terms, frozen pork cut exports soared to $19M (IndexBox estimates) in December 2022. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Canada Frozen Pork Cut Exports by Country
China (7.8K tons) was the main destination for frozen pork cut exports from Canada, with a 77% share of total exports. Moreover, frozen pork cut exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (604 tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Mexico (316 tons), with a 3.1% share.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to China amounted to +4.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the United States (-7.7% per month) and Mexico (-3.9% per month).
In value terms, China ($15M) remains the key foreign market for frozen pork cut exports from Canada, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($1.9M), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Mexico, with a 2.5% share.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to China amounted to +6.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the United States (-4.3% per month) and Mexico (-2.5% per month).
