Safety Glass Price in Brazil Skyrocket 10% to $22.5 per Square Meter
Brazil Safety Glass Import Price in February 2023
In February 2023, the safety glass price stood at $22.5 per square meter (CIF, Brazil), surging by 9.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 80% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $39,897 per thousand square meters. From January 2023 to February 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($218 per square meter), while the price for Paraguay ($12.4 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+9.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Brazil Safety Glass Imports
In February 2023, approximately 178K square meters of safety glass were imported into Brazil; which is down by -3.5% on the previous month. In general, imports showed a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 with an increase of 144% against the previous month. Imports peaked at 276K square meters in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to February 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, safety glass imports expanded markedly to $4M (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when imports increased by 25% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at 7.4M square meters in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to February 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.
Brazil Safety Glass Imports by Country
In February 2023, China (134K square meters) constituted the largest safety glass supplier to Brazil, with a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, safety glass imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Paraguay (19K square meters), sevenfold. Finland (8K square meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.5% share.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume from China amounted to -3.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Paraguay (+6.1% per month) and Finland (-1.1% per month).
In value terms, China ($2.3M) constituted the largest supplier of safety glass to Brazil, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Finland ($307K), with a 7.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 6.1% share.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to -5.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Finland (-0.5% per month) and Italy (-4.6% per month).
