Brazil's Plywood Price Declines 3% to $422 per Cubic Meter
Brazil Plywood Export Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the plywood price stood at $422 per cubic meter (FOB, Brazil), which is down by -2.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2022 when the average export price increased by 6.2% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $456 per cubic meter in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to August 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Canada ($543 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($327 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Brazil Plywood Exports
In August 2022, overseas shipments of plywood decreased by -18.3% to 134K cubic meters, falling for the third consecutive month after two months of growth. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 with an increase of 11% against the previous month. The exports peaked at 252K cubic meters in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to August 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, plywood exports reduced markedly to $56M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 with an increase of 17% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at 112M cubic meters in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to August 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Brazil Plywood Exports by Country
The United States (48K cubic meters) was the main destination for plywood exports from Brazil, with a 36% share of total exports. Moreover, plywood exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mexico (21K cubic meters), twofold. Belgium (7.5K cubic meters) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.6% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to the United States totaled -8.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Mexico (+4.4% per month) and Belgium (-17.3% per month).
In value terms, the United States ($22M) remains the key foreign market for plywood exports from Brazil, comprising 39% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($7M), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by the Dominican Republic, with a 4.5% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to the United States stood at -9.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Mexico (+4.0% per month) and the Dominican Republic (+12.4% per month).
