Monoammonium Phosphate Price in Brazil Declines for Two Consecutive Months to $1,027 per Ton
Brazil Monoammonium Phosphate Import Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the monoammonium phosphate price amounted to $1,027 per ton (CIF, Brazil), which is down by -7.2% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to August 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 when the average import price increased by 16% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1,155 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to August 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices from Australia ($1,257 per ton) and China ($1,217 per ton), while the price for the United States ($842 per ton) and Russia ($978 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saint Lucia (+9.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Brazil Monoammonium Phosphate Imports
In August 2022, purchases abroad of monoammonium phosphate (MAP) decreased by -30% to 405K tons, falling for the third month in a row after five months of growth. In general, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 when imports increased by 111% m-o-m. Imports peaked at 742K tons in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to August 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, monoammonium phosphate imports contracted notably to $416M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2022 when imports increased by 114% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at 798K tons in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to August 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Brazil Monoammonium Phosphate Imports by Country
Russia (184K tons), Morocco (104K tons) and Saudi Arabia (91K tons) were the main suppliers of monoammonium phosphate imports to Brazil, together comprising 93% of total imports.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +64.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest monoammonium phosphate suppliers to Brazil were Russia ($180M), Morocco ($110M) and Saudi Arabia ($94M), with a combined 92% share of total imports.
Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +73.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
