Global permanent magnet imports totaled 822K tonnes in 2016, remaining stable against the previous year figure. Overall, permanent magnet imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010, an increase of 7% year-to-year. Over the period under review, global permanent magnet imports attained its maximum volume of 855K tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength. In value terms, permanent magnet imports stood at $7.8B in 2016. Overall, it indicated a noticeable expansion from 2007 to 2016: the total imports value decreased at an average annual rate of -0.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, permanent magnet imports decreased by -20.0% against its level of 2012. Over the period under review, global permanent magnet imports reached its maximum level of $9.7B in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.
