Global luggage imports stood at 7.3M tonnes in 2016, leveling off at the previous year figure. In general, luggage imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010, when imports increased by 2% from the previous year level.

In 2016, the global luggage exports amounted to 3.9M tonnes, standing approx. at the previous year figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010, when export increased by 28% from the previous year level.

The U.S. ranks first in imports of textile bags and canvas, accounting for a 24% share of global imports (based on USD). It was followed by Japan (13%) and Germany (7%). In 2015, U.S. textile bag and canvas imports totaled 5.66 million USD, which was 322 million USD (6%) higher than the year before.
