The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations over the period under review. From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of escalator imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by Indonesia (+22.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth. In value terms, the U.S. ($3.8B), China ($2.3B) and Germany ($1.2B) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2016, together accounting for 27% of global imports. These countries were followed by Russia, France, the Netherlands, Australia, Turkey, South Korea, Indonesia, Spain and Italy, which together accounted for a further 21%. Indonesia (+20.6% per year) had the highest rates of growth with regard to the escalator imports, in terms of the main importing countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth. Escalator Import Prices By Country The average escalator import price stood at $5,768 per tonne in 2016, shrinking by -6.5% against the previous year. In general, escalator import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when import increased by 15% from the previous year level.
