Global knitted fabric imports amounted to 1.1M tonnes in 2016, growing by 2% against the previous year figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2007 to 2016; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010, an increase of 14% y-o-y. Global knitted fabric import peaked of 1.1M tonnes in 2011; afterwards, it flattened through to 2016. In value terms, knitted fabric imports stood at $3.3B in 2016. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2007 to 2016; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations in certain years. In that year, global knitted fabric imports attained its maximum level of $3.5B. From 2012 to 2016, growth of global knitted fabric imports failed to regain its strength. Mexico (57K tonnes) occupied a 5% share (based on tonnes) of global knitted fabric imports, which put it in second place, following South Korea (5%). Cambodia (41K tonnes), Brazil (28K tonnes), Bangladesh (28K tonnes), the U.S. (26K tonnes), Turkey (24K tonnes), Viet Nam (22K tonnes), Jordan (20K tonnes), Russia (19K tonnes), and Malaysia (19K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure. China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. At the same time, Brazil (+22.1%), Bangladesh (+21.1%), Turkey (+15.2%), Cambodia (+8.3%), Viet Nam (+2.8%), South Korea (+1.3%), and Mexico (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Brazil emerged as the fastest growing importer/exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +22.1% from 2007-2016. Malaysia, and Jordan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Russia (-2.0%), and the U.S. (-2.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (-1.6%), Cambodia (-2.0%), Bangladesh (-2.1%), and Brazil (-2.2%) significantly weakened its position in terms of the global imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period. In value terms, Cambodia ($286M), Mexico ($217M) and China ($182M) appeared as the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2016, with a combined 20% share of global imports.Bangladesh, Viet Nam, Jordan, Turkey, the U.S., Brazil, Malaysia, Russia and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%. Bangladesh (+31.0% per year) recorded the highest growth rate of knitted fabric imports, among the main importing countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth. Knitted Fabric Import Prices By Country In 2016, the average import price for knitted fabric amounted to $3,114 per tonne, reducing by -2.5% against the previous year. In general, knitted fabric import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011, an increase of 15% year-to-year. Global knitted fabric import peaked of $3,365 per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength. There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst major importing countries. In 2016, the country with the highest import prices was Viet Nam ($7,741 per tonne), while China ($402 per tonne) was among the lowest. Overall, it indicated a strong expansion from 2007 to 2016: the total exports volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, knitted fabric exports increased by +88.0% against its level of 2009. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016, an increase of 39% year-to-year. In that year, global knitted fabric exports attained its maximum volume, and are likely to continue its growth in the immediate term. In value terms, knitted fabric exports amounted to $4.1B in 2016. Overall, it indicated a strong growth from 2007 to 2016: the total exports value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine years. Malaysia (17K tonnes), the U.S. (16K tonnes), and Italy (10K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure. China was also the fastest growing in terms of the knitted fabric exports, with a CAGR of +15.7% from 2007 to 2016. At the same time, Malaysia (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the U.S. (-1.0%), Italy (-2.2%), and South Korea (-3.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Korea (2%) increased significantly, the share of China (-55.2%) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period. In value terms, China ($2.9B) remains the largest knitted fabric supplier in the world, making up 71% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by South Korea ($232M), with the share of 6% of global exports. It was followed by the U.S., with the share of 4%. From 2007 to 2016, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value of knitted fabric exports in China expanded at +12.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates: South Korea (-2.2% per year) and the U.S. (-2.7% per year). Knitted Fabric Export Prices By Country The average knitted fabric export price stood at $6,811 per tonne in 2016, descending by -30.2% against the previous year. Overall, knitted fabric export price continues to indicate a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when export increased by 24% y-o-y. In that year, average knitted fabric export price attained its maximum level of $11 per kg. From 2012 to 2016, growth of average knitted fabric export price stood at a somewhat lower level.
