In 2016, the amount of tufted carpet imported worldwide totaled 1.6M tonnes, increasing by 4% against the previous year figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2007 to 2016; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed over the period under review. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when import increased by 16% y-o-y. Global tufted carpet import peaked in 2016, and are expected to retain its growth in the near future. In value terms, tufted carpet imports totaled $6.3B in 2016. In general, tufted carpet imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, global tufted carpet imports attained its maximum level of $6.9B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength. Saudi Arabia (96.0 million USD) Tufted Carpet Imports By Country The imports of the four major importers of tufted carpet, namely the UK, the U.S., Canada, and Germany, represented more than third of total import. The following importers - Australia (70K tonnes), the Netherlands (56K tonnes), Saudi Arabia (45K tonnes), Czech Republic (45K tonnes), France (45K tonnes), Japan (43K tonnes), Belgium (35K tonnes), and Poland (30K tonnes) together made up 23% of total imports. From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of tufted carpet imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by Saudi Arabia (+34.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth. In value terms, the U.S. ($892M), the UK ($842M) and Canada ($575M) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2016, with a combined 37% share of global imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Australia, Japan, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Czech Republic, Poland and Saudi Arabia, which together accounted for a further 31%. Saudi Arabia (+25.8% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of tufted carpet imports, among the main importing countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth. Tufted Carpet Import Prices By Country In 2016, the average import price for tufted carpet amounted to $3,976 per tonne, dropping by -4.9% against the previous year. In general, tufted carpet import price continues to indicate a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when import increased by 7% y-o-y. Global tufted carpet import peaked of $4,891 per tonne in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.
