Costa Rica (95 tonnes), Spain (83 tonnes) and China (41 tonnes) were the main destinations of blind and shade exports from the U.S., together accounting for 44% of total exports. These countries were followed by Greece, El Salvador, Guatemala, China, Hong Kong SAR, Venezuela, Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Nicaragua and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 41%.

From 2013 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Guatemala (+77.7% per year), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Spain ($1.5M) remains the key foreign market for blind and shade exports from the U.S., comprising 41% of total blind and shade exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Costa Rica ($439K), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Cayman Islands, with a 5.1% share.

Export Prices by Country


The average blind and shade export price stood at $7.6 per kg in 2018, approximately reflecting the previous year. In general, the blind and shade export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.

Export prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest export price was Spain ($19 per kg), while the average price for exports to Venezuela ($478 per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of export prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+38.7% per year), while the export prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2013 to 2018; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports peaked at $986M in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2018, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2018, China (187K tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of blind and shade to the U.S., with a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, blind and shade imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second largest supplier, Cambodia (63K tonnes), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Viet Nam (27K tonnes), with a 9% share.

From 2013 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at -6.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Cambodia (+126.0% per year) and Viet Nam (+35.6% per year).

In value terms, China ($659M) constituted the largest supplier of blind and shade to the U.S., comprising 67% of total blind and shade imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Cambodia ($131M), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan, Chinese, with a 6.8% share.

Import Prices by Country


The average blind and shade import price stood at $3.3 per kg in 2018, surging by 5.8% against the previous year. In general, the blind and shade import price continues to indicate a mild increase.

There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2018, the country with the highest import price was Taiwan, Chinese ($5.8 per kg), while the price for Viet Nam ($1.8 per kg) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of import prices was attained by Cambodia (+11.4% per year), while the import prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
