In August 2022, the sunflower seed price amounted to $1,761 per ton (CIF, Australia), with an increase of 9.7% against the previous month. Over the last seven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was China ($2,897 per ton), while the price for Bulgaria totaled $1,748 per ton.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+3.1%).

In August 2022, supplies from abroad of sunflower seed increased by 19% to 448 tons for the first time since May 2022, thus ending a two-month declining trend. Overall, imports showed a pronounced increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 when imports increased by 156% month-to-month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 900 tons. From June 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sunflower seed imports soared to $789K (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, imports showed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 when imports increased by 181% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $1.4M. From June 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
