Ammonia Price in U.S. Rises to $1.1K per Ton, Rising for Two Consecutive Months
U.S. Ammonia Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the ammonia price per ton amounted to $1.1K (CIF, US), increasing by 2.2% against the previous month. Over the last seven-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 an increase of 4.7% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1.1K per ton in April 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to August 2022.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Canada ($1.1K per ton), while the price for Trinidad and Tobago stood at $1.0K per ton.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+3.1%).
U.S. Ammonia Imports
In August 2022, supplies from abroad of anhydrous ammonia was finally on the rise to reach 204K tons for the first time since May 2022, thus ending a two-month declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 with an increase of 55% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 294K tons. From June 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, ammonia imports surged to $215M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 61% m-o-m.
U.S. Ammonia Imports by Country
Trinidad and Tobago (111K tons) and Canada (92K tons) were the main suppliers of ammonia imports to the United States.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Canada (with a CAGR of -0.0%).
In value terms, Trinidad and Tobago ($114M) and Canada ($100M) were the largest ammonia suppliers to the United States.
Among the main suppliers, Canada, with a CAGR of +3.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review.
