U.S. Aluminum Price per Ton April 2022
The aluminum price per ton stood at $3,895 (CIF, US) in Apr 2022, growing by 6% against the previous month. Over the last three months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +5.1%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Canada ($4,461 per ton), while the price for Qatar ($2,415 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From Jan 2022 to Apr 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Aluminum Imports
In Apr 2022, the amount of aluminum imported into the United States reduced to 344K tons, falling by -3.2% against the previous month's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in Mar 2022 when imports increased by 40% month-to-month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 356K tons, and then dropped slightly in the following month.
In value terms, aluminum imports expanded modestly to $1.3B (IndexBox estimates) in Apr 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +5.9% over the period from Jan 2022 to Apr 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in Mar 2022 when imports increased by 45% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in Apr 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
U.S. Aluminum Imports by Country
Canada (22K tons), the United Arab Emirates (21K tons) and India (14K tons) were the main suppliers of aluminum imports to the United States, together comprising 16% of total imports. From Jan 2022 to Apr 2022, the biggest increases were in India, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Canada ($98M), the United Arab Emirates ($81M) and India ($48M) constituted the largest aluminum suppliers to the United States, with a combined 17% share of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, India recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
