U.S. Alumina Import Price per Ton June 2022
In June 2022, the alumina price per ton amounted to $524 (CIF, US), with a decrease of -19.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when the average import price increased by 11% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $655 per ton in May 2022, and then fell significantly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($1,008 per ton), while the price for Brazil amounted to $450 per ton.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+1.7%).
U.S. Alumina Imports
In June 2022, overseas purchases of alumina increased by 70% to 195K tons, rising for the second month in a row after two months of decline. In general, imports posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2022 with an increase of 94% m-o-m. Imports peaked in June 2022.
In value terms, alumina imports soared to $102M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. Overall, imports saw resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 with an increase of 74% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in June 2022.
U.S. Alumina Imports by Country
In June 2022, Brazil (182K tons) was the main alumina supplier to the United States, with a 93% share of total imports. It was followed by China (5.1K tons), with a 2.6% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Brazil amounted to +19.5%.
In value terms, Brazil ($82M) constituted the largest supplier of alumina to the United States, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($5.1M), with a 5% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Brazil stood at +21.6%.
