Ground or Treated Mineral Market - U.S. Ground or Treated Mineral and Earth Imports Diminishing, Brazil Rushes the Supply

The U.S. takes a X% share (based on USD) of global imports on the ground or treated mineral market, which put it in second place, following Germany (X%) and ahead of Japan (X%). In 2015, U.S. ground or treated mineral and earth imports totaled X million USD, which was X million USD (X%) less than the year before.
From 2007 to 2015, U.S. ground or treated mineral and earth imports displayed fluctuating values. An abrupt fall in 2009 switched to a spike over the next two years, until imports plunged again in 2012. After another drop in the following year, imports stabilized through to 2015.
In 2011, U.S. ground or treated mineral and earth imports overcame the pre-recession imports level of 2008. However, after a fall over 2012-2013, imports languished at the level only slightly above their pre-recession peak.
Despite imports not being expected to show notable growth, the U.S. continues to be one of the biggest markets for global exporters.
China was the main supplier of ground or treated minerals and earth into the U.S., with a X% share of total U.S. imports in 2015, based on USD. It was distantly followed by Canada (X%) and Brazil (X%). Brazil was the fastest growing supplier (+X% per year) from 2007 to 2015, while the import from Canada grew by +X% per year. Over the last five years, imports from China returned to their outset level from the peak of 2011. Brazil strengthened its position in the U.S. import structure by +X percentage points from 2007 to 2015, while China lost -X percentage points, and Canada maintained a relatively stable share over the same period.
From 2007 to 2015, the U.S. was a net importer of ground or treated minerals and earth. Moreover, imports grew faster than exports on average over the period under review. Net US imports of ground or treated minerals and earth experienced strong fluctuations over the period under review, which resulted into a small trade deficit of X million USD in 2015.
