Source: Manitowoc Cranes
China never ceases to impress: the latest luffing jib crane produced at Manitowoc's Zhangjiagang plant is believed to be one of the most flexible and versatile cranes in the world. This MCR X crane has a ten tonne capacity and up to X meters of main jib, with a capacity of X tonnes at the end of the jib. It is the second crane of this type assembled at this China-based facility, along with MCR X A.
According to Kwong-Joon Leong, regional product manager for Manitowoc tower cranes, the new crane has the advantage of excellent fit and flexibility. It can be mounted on narrow X and X m wide mast sections, which makes this crane highly versatile and fit for a greater number of projects.
Manitowoc is an international company headquartered in the U.S. that focuses on food service products and construction. With the establishment of a manufacturing facility in Zhangjiagang, China, the Asia-Pacific region has begun playing a crucial role for the company. Contractors and rental companies of this region are expected to maintain their interest in more efficient cranes, such as the MCR X. A complete restructuring of the sales and service network in this region has seen the opening of dozens of new offices, putting the company in a stronger position.
Since China dominates on the crane market, the choice of a location for Manitowoc's large crane manufacturing facility was a quite obvious one. Germany and Japan were among the other main global suppliers of derricks, cranes, mobile lifting frames and straddle carriers in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporter from 2007 to 2014 was Ireland (+X% per year). Despite this, it was China that significantly strengthened its position in the global export structure.
China's top X trading partners in 2014 were Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, the U.S., Malaysia and Indonesia, with a combined X% share of China's exports of derricks, cranes, mobile lifting frames and straddle carriers.
