Lithuania Is a Key EU Producer and Exporter of Sacks and Bags

From 2007 to 2014, EU production of sacks and bags showed mixed dynamics, finally falling from 125 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 98 thousand tonnes in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of -3.3% over the period under review. In value terms, EU bag production reached 420 million EUR in 2014, growing by +3.5% annually.

The countries with the largest production volumes of bags in absolute volumes were Lithuania (3.3 thousand tonnes), Finland (1.6 thousand tonnes) and Estonia (0.7 thousand tonnes).

Positive dynamics in bag production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Finland (+17.9% per year), while for the other two EU leaders (Lithuania and Estonia) the paces of growth were negative.

Lithuania was one of the leaders in EU bag production and trade. In 2014, it exported 45% of its total bag output. Of this amount, 29% was supplied to Latvia, where Lithuania's sacks and bags held a 36% share of total Latvia's imports.
