Italy Prevails in EU Uncooked Pasta Production and Trade

From 2007 to 2014, EU uncooked pasta production showed steady growth dynamics with a CAGR of 5.9% over the period under review, excluding the timespan from 2012 to 2013 which was marked by a slight decrease. EU uncooked pasta production rose from 3 350 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 4 991 thousand tonnes in 2014. In value terms, EU pasta production reached 5 168 million EUR in 2014, growing by 6.8% annually.

The countries with the largest production of uncooked pasta in absolute volumes were Italy (3 310 thousand tonnes), followed distantly by Spain (296 thousand tonnes), France (271 thousand tonnes) and Germany (267 thousand tonnes).

Positive dynamics in pasta production among the main producing countries in the period from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Italy (+8.3% per year), while for the other three EU leaders (Spain, France and Germany) the paces of growth were more modest or negative.

Italy dominated in EU uncooked pasta production and trade. In 2014, Italy exported 55% of its total uncooked pasta output. Of this amount, 19% was supplied to Germany, where Italy's uncooked pasta held a 91% share of total Germany imports.
