Yarn Market - Italy Is the Leader in EU Production and Trade of Man-Made Filament Yarn

From 2007 to 2014, EU production of man-made filament yarn showed mixed dynamics, falling from 174 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 165 thousand tonnes in 2014. Over the period under review, it dropped with a CAGR of 0.7%. In value terms, EU production on the yarn market reached 863 million EUR in 2014, growing by 3.3% annually.

The countries with the largest yarn production in absolute volumes were Italy (87 thousand tonnes), distantly followed by Spain (19 thousand tonnes), Germany (12 thousand tonnes) and Croatia (11 thousand tonnes).

Positive dynamics in the production of man-made filament yarn among the main producing countries in the period from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Croatia (+26.9% per year), while for the other three EU leaders (Italy, Spain and Germany) the paces of growth were more modest or negative.

Italy dominated in EU man-made filament yarn production and trade. In 2014, Italy exported 13% of its total man-made filament yarn output. Of this amount, 17% was supplied to the Netherlands, where Italy's man-made filament yarn held an 8% share of the Netherlands' total imports.
