Italy Dominates in EU Production and Trade of Woven Cotton Fabrics

EU production of woven cotton fabrics showed negative dynamics over the period from 2007 to 2014, falling from 1,269 million square meters in 2007 to 709 million square meters in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of 8.0%. In value terms, EU production of woven cotton fabrics decreased to 1,856 million EUR in 2014, falling by 6.7% annually.

The countries with the largest production of woven cotton fabrics in absolute volumes were Italy (231 million square meters), followed distantly by the Czech Republic (67 million square meters), Poland (27 million square meters) and Romania (18 million square meters).

In the period from 2007 to 2014, all of the production leaders displayed negative dynamics. The lowest annual rates were recorded in Romania (-18.6%), followed by Poland (-16.6%), Italy (-10.9%) and the Czech Republic (-7.3%).

Italy dominated in EU production and trade of woven cotton fabrics. In value terms, in 2014, Italy exported 53% of its total output of woven cotton fabrics. Of this amount, 11% was supplied to Romania, where Italy's woven cotton fabrics held a 35% share of total Romania imports.
