Germany Improves its Position in the EU Prefabricated Building Industry

From 2007 to 2014, EU prefabricated building production showed mixed dynamics, finally falling from 27.3 billion EUR in 2007 to 23.4 billion EUR in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of -2.2% over the period under review.

Italy was the largest producer of prefabricated buildings in value terms, with 5.7 billion EUR. It was followed by Germany (3.4 billion EUR) and Spain (1.2 billion EUR).

Positive dynamics in prefabricated building production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Germany (+2.9% per year), while for the other two EU leaders (Italy and Spain) the paces of growth were negative.

Germany ranked second in EU prefabricated building production and dominated in trade. In 2014, it exported 11% of its total prefabricated building output. Of this amount, 13% was supplied to Austria, where German prefabricated buildings held a 44% share of total Austria's imports.
