EU industrial textile manufacturing experienced a decrease in physical terms in the timespan from 2008 to 2011. The most notable plunge occurred in 2010 when the production shrunk by 35%. However, in 2012 it considerably improved, and by 2014 total EU production on the textiles market increased to 121 thousand tonnes. The CAGR for that period stood at 0.7%. In value terms, EU industrial textile production decreased to 1,409 million EUR in 2014, falling by 4.0% annually.

The countries with the largest production of industrial textile in absolute volumes were Finland (7.5 thousand tonnes), Poland (5.9 thousand tonnes), Cyprus (5.3 thousand tonnes), Spain (5.0 thousand tonnes) and Italy (4.7 thousand tonnes).

Positive dynamics in technical textile production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Cyprus (+9.5% per year) and Spain (+1.7% per year), while for the other three EU leaders (Finland, Poland and Italy) the paces of growth were negative.

Finland dominated in EU industrial textile production and ranked fourth in trade. In 2014, Finland exported 14% of its total industrial textile output. Of this amount, 37% was supplied to Germany, where Finland's textile for technical uses held a 2% share of total Germany's imports.
