Strawberry Market - Driscoll’s Expands Organic Strawberry Production

A California-based company Driscoll's has recently revealed its plans of introducing extended organic nursery plant production and provision of the company's certified organic farmers with organic nursery plants.

Famous for its innovative approach to strawberry cultivation, Driscoll's is a key player on the U.S. organic berry market, constantly pushing it forward and enhancing organic production techniques. Health-conscious consumers tend to opt for Driscoll's organic strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and other berry types, trusting in the brand's practices of organic growing.

Nursery is where life of each Driscoll's berry starts. In the nurseries, plants are cultivated, harvested, packed and then delivered to farmers for commercial fruit production. At present, Driscoll's manages the only organic strawberry nursery certified by CCOF, the U.S. oldest and largest third-party certifying agency. These are the only commercial organic strawberry start nurseries certified under the USDA National Organic Program.

With a century of family farming experience, Driscoll's is dedicated to growing juicy and naturally wholesome berries that are rich in antioxidants, fiber and vitamins. In addition, the company offers a variety of recipes to make berries shine in customers' favorite desserts or savory dishes.

Moreover, Driscoll's is one of the few berry producers engaged in the global research and development program of growing proprietary berry varieties for their independent growers to deliver the best berry flavors. Driscoll's defines its mission as providing continuous delight of berry consumers.

Despite of being a pioneer in R&D of berry market, the U.S. is still outpaced by Spain the global strawberry trade. In 2014, Spain exported X thousand tonnes of strawberries totaling X million USD, X% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner on the global strawberry market was Germany, where it supplied X% of its total strawberry exports in value terms, accounting for X% of Germany's total imports.

From 2007 to 2014, Spain was a net exporter of strawberries. Over this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. However, in physical terms, the difference was more pronounced.

The U.S. and the Netherlands were among the other main global suppliers of strawberries in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were Greece (+X% per year) and Egypt (+X% per year). The Netherlands significantly strengthened its position in the global export structure.

In 2014, Spain's top X trading partners were Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy and Portugal, with a combined X% share of Spain's strawberry exports. The share of Germany increased (+X percentage points), while the share of France illustrated negative dynamics (-X percentage points).
