Frozen Vegetable Market - Belgium Remains the Largest Global Frozen Vegetable Exporter despite 5% Drop in 2014

Belgium managed to continue its leading role in the global frozen vegetable trade. In 2014, Belgium exported 1,247 thousand tonnes of frozen vegetables totaling 1,357 million USD, 5% under the previous year. Its primary trading partner on the global frozen vegetable market was Germany, where it supplied 24% of its total frozen vegetable exports in value terms, accounting for 49% of Germany's total imports.

From 2007 to 2014, Belgium was a net exporter of frozen vegetables. Over this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. In physical terms exports and imports were evenly balanced.

China and Spain were among the other main global suppliers of frozen vegetables in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporter from 2007 to 2014 was Egypt (+20% per year). China strengthened its position in the global export structure.

Belgium's top 5 trading partners in 2014 were Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Italy, with a combined 69% share of Belgium's frozen vegetable exports. The share of Germany increased slightly (+2 percentage points), while the share of France illustrated negative dynamics (-6 percentage points).
