The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, peat exports declined to $X in 2023. Total exports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2022, and then shrank in the following year.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the five major exporters of peat, namely Latvia, Estonia, Germany, Lithuania and the Netherlands, represented more than two-thirds of total export. Ireland (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Sweden (X tons) and Belgium (X tons). All these countries together held near X% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest peat supplying countries in the European Union were Latvia ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Estonia, Lithuania, Belgium, Ireland and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
Estonia, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2023, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the last eleven-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of X%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2022 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2023 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports by Country
In 2023, the Netherlands (X tons), distantly followed by Germany (X tons), Italy (X tons), France (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Poland (X tons) represented the key importers of peat, together committing X% of total imports. Spain (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Latvia (X tons) and Denmark (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Latvia (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported peat in the European Union, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a X% share.
