In value terms, knitted fabric exports rose modestly to $X in 2023. Overall, exports, however, saw a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2023 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
In 2023, Egypt (X tons) was the key exporter of knitted or crocheted fabrics, comprising X% of total exports. South Africa (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Mauritius (X tons), Swaziland (X tons), Rwanda (X tons) and Ethiopia (X tons). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total exports. Morocco (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Egypt increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Rwanda (X%), Ethiopia (X%), Swaziland (X%) and Morocco (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Rwanda emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Mauritius (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Egypt (X p.p.), Rwanda (X p.p.), Swaziland (X p.p.) and Ethiopia (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of South Africa (X p.p.) and Mauritius (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Egypt ($X), Mauritius ($X) and South Africa ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2023, together comprising X% of total exports. Morocco, Swaziland, Ethiopia and Rwanda lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.
Among the main exporting countries, Rwanda, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2023, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, jumping by X% against the previous year. Over the last eleven-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of X%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2023 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per ton), while Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mauritius (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the third consecutive year, Africa recorded growth in purchases abroad of knitted or crocheted fabrics, which increased by X% to X tons in 2023. In general, imports continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X%. The volume of import peaked in 2023 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
