Wheat Price in Spain (CIF) - 2022
The average wheat import price stood at $370 per ton in 2022, rising by 25% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, wheat import price increased by +92.0% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 29%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($497 per ton) and Canada ($438 per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($334 per ton) and Ukraine ($336 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Luxembourg (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wheat Price in Spain (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average wheat export price amounted to $496 per ton, reducing by -8.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 378% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,672 per ton. From June 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($500 per ton), while the average price for exports to Portugal amounted to $488 per ton.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wheat Imports in Spain
In 2022, supplies from abroad of wheat was finally on the rise to reach 4.9M tons after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a mild shrinkage.
In value terms, wheat imports soared to $1.8B in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a strong expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Wheat Exports in Spain
In 2022, approx. 337K tons of wheat were exported from Spain; picking up by 13% against the year before. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt descent.
