Waxes; Artificial, Prepared Price in Germany (FOB) - 2023

The average waxes; artificial, prepared export price stood at $3,843 per ton in July 2023, declining by -2.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 6.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $4,029 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($4,874 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($2,630 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2023, the average waxes; artificial, prepared import price amounted to $2,890 per ton, falling by -4.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 4.6% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,494 per ton. From January 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($7,725 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($1,434 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Waxes; Artificial, Prepared Exports in Germany

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of waxes; artificial, prepared decreased by -7% to 215K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 232K tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, waxes; artificial, prepared exports expanded remarkably to $868M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +51.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, waxes; artificial, prepared imports skyrocketed to $295M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.7% over the last three years.
