Virgin Olive Oil Price in New Zealand (CIF) - 2021

In December 2021, the average virgin olive oil import price amounted to $5,026 per ton, remaining constant against the previous month. Over the period from December 2020 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2021 an increase of 20% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $5,309 per ton in September 2021; however, from October 2021 to December 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Italy ($5,312 per ton), while the price for Tunisia ($3,523 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Virgin Olive Oil Price in New Zealand (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average virgin olive oil export price amounted to $10,269 per ton, falling by -4.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 71%. The export price peaked at $12,782 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($55,593 per ton), while the average price for exports to Australia ($5,416 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+15.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Virgin Olive Oil Imports in New Zealand

In 2022, imports of virgin olive oil into New Zealand totaled 3K tons, with an increase of 6.9% on 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 3.2K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, virgin olive oil imports totaled $13M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $13M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
