Tobacco Refuse Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average tobacco refuse import price amounted to $1,395 per ton, increasing by 8.9% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a pronounced expansion from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.6% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, tobacco refuse import price increased by +10.8% against May 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 25% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,431 per ton in March 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to July 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($1,500 per ton), while the price for Tanzania ($988 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2023, the average tobacco refuse export price amounted to $573 per ton, growing by 51% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 120% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $887 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Poland ($2,301 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($150 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Tobacco Refuse Imports in Turkey
In 2022, approx. 15K tons of tobacco refuses were imported into Turkey; with an increase of 26% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern.
In value terms, tobacco refuse imports soared to $15M in 2022. In general, imports saw a slight expansion.
