Sweet Potato Price in the UK (CIF) - 2023
The average sweet potato import price stood at $731 per ton in June 2023, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 5.8% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $800 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($1,194 per ton), while the price for China ($632 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sweet Potato Price in the UK (FOB) - 2023
The average sweet potato export price stood at $1,239 per ton in June 2023, shrinking by -21.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 74% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $1,903 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($3,144 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($1,066 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ireland (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sweet Potato Imports in the UK
In 2022, purchases abroad of sweet potatoes decreased by -21.1% to 126K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 159K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sweet potato imports fell notably to $94M in 2022. In general, imports recorded a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 12%.

Sweet Potato Exports in the UK
For the third year in a row, the UK recorded decline in overseas shipments of sweet potatoes, which decreased by -37.9% to 4.5K tons in 2022. Overall, exports showed a sharp descent. The smallest decline of -2.5% was in 2020.
In value terms, sweet potato exports fell dramatically to $6.6M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a sharp shrinkage. The smallest decline of -16.4% was in 2020.
