Sweet Potato Price in Egypt (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average sweet potato export price amounted to $1,115 per ton, with a decrease of -14.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 90% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $1,300 per ton in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to the Netherlands ($1,115 per ton) and Russia ($1,115 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kuwait ($1,115 per ton) and France ($1,115 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kuwait (+13.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sweet Potato Price in Egypt (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average sweet potato import price amounted to $1,152 per ton, reducing by -5.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, posted resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,220 per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Singapore.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Jordan amounted to +11.0% per year.
Sweet Potato Exports in Egypt
In 2022, overseas shipments of sweet potatoes increased by 74% to 73K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, showed a deep contraction.
In value terms, sweet potato exports skyrocketed to $81M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +77.0% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Sweet Potato Imports in Egypt
Sweet potato imports into Egypt reduced remarkably to 592 kg in 2022, with a decrease of -94.3% against 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a precipitous setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 29%.
