Sugar Price in Egypt (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average sugar import price amounted to $1,097 per ton, growing by 22% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sugar import price decreased by -22.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 81%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,408 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($1,097 per ton), while the price for the UK totaled $647 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+2.2%).
Sugar Price in Egypt (FOB) - 2022
The average sugar export price stood at $522 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -33.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,025 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Syrian Arab Republic ($1,297 per ton), while the average price for exports to Sudan ($480 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Palestine (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Imports in Egypt
In 2022, the amount of sugar imported into Egypt surged to 149K tons, increasing by 80% compared with the year before. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 1,129% against the previous year.
