Spices; Saffron Price in Indonesia (CIF) - 2022

The average spices; saffron import price stood at $14,085 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -22% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 218%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $18,058 per ton in 2021, and then shrank notably in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Iran ($12,502 per ton), while the price for Spain ($3,312 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average spices; saffron export price stood at $39,767 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -21% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 344%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $134,421 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($345,594 per ton), while the average price for exports to Timor-Leste ($10,053 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of spices; saffra decreased by -21.5% to 10 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 721%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 49 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, spices; saffron imports fell sharply to $147K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 375%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $448K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 256%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, spices; saffron exports contracted to $32K in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +55.7% against 2019 indices.
