Walnut Production in Turkey - 2022
After five years of growth, production of walnuts decreased by -5.9% to 306K tons in 2022. Overall, the total production indicated a prominent expansion from 2017 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last five-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +45.6% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 27%. Walnut production peaked at 325K tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year. Walnut output in Turkey indicated a remarkable increase, which was largely conditioned by a resilient increase of the harvested area and a slight decline in yield figures.
In value terms, walnut production stood at $759M in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 37%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $814M. From 2021 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.
Walnut Harvested Area in Turkey - 2022
The walnut harvested area in Turkey shrank modestly to 148K ha in 2022, which is down by -3.8% on the year before. Overall, the total harvested area indicated resilient growth from 2017 to 2022: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +9.9% over the last five-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, walnut harvested area increased by +60.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to walnut production reached the peak figure at 154K ha in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
Walnut Yield in Turkey - 2022
In 2022, the average yield of walnuts in Turkey reduced slightly to 2.1 tons per ha, declining by -2.2% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, the yield saw a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 12%. The walnut yield peaked at 2.3 tons per ha in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure.
