Pear Production in China - 2022
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in production of pears, when its volume decreased by -2.8% to 18M tons. The total output volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 7.7%. Pear production peaked at 19M tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year. Pear output in China indicated a measured increase, which was largely conditioned by perceptible growth of the harvested area and a modest increase in yield figures.
In value terms, pear production reduced slightly to $21.9B in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the period from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the production volume increased by 19%. Pear production peaked at $22.1B in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.

In 2022, approx. 972K ha of pears were harvested in China; approximately reflecting the year before. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the harvested area increased by 2.2%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to pear production attained the maximum at 981K ha in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

In 2022, the average yield of pears in China dropped slightly to 19 tons per ha, shrinking by -1.8% against the previous year. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the yield increased by 6.2% against the previous year. The pear yield peaked at 19 tons per ha in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
