Millet Production in China - 2022
In 2022, production of millet in China amounted to 2.8M tons, increasing by 2% against 2021 figures. The total output volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 22%. As a result, production reached the peak volume of 2.8M tons; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022. Millet output in China indicated mild growth, which was largely conditioned by a mild expansion of the harvested area and a relatively flat trend pattern in yield figures.
In value terms, millet production expanded markedly to $3B in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, the total production indicated a resilient increase from 2017 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last five-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -10.6% against 2020 indices. From 2021 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

As a result, the yield attained the peak level of 3.1 tons per ha. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the average millet yield failed to regain momentum.
