In January 2024, the average export price for steel, alloy amounted to $1,568 per ton, standing approximately at the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 37% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,532 per ton. From July 2023 to January 2024, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,720 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($1,263 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In January 2024, the average import price for steel, alloy amounted to $1,718 per ton, with an increase of 7.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2023 when the average import price increased by 17% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in January 2024.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for China.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to +1.4% per month.
