In July 2023, the average import price for spices; ginger, neither crushed nor ground amounted to $619 per ton, rising by 12% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($1,649 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($543 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+9.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for spices; ginger, neither crushed nor ground stood at $1,404 per ton in 2022, increasing by 85% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a abrupt curtailment. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $5,383 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,144 per ton), while the average price for exports to Afghanistan stood at $488 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

For the third year in a row, Pakistan recorded decline in supplies from abroad of spices; ginger, neither crushed nor ground, which decreased by -2.4% to 80K tons in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced decline. The smallest decline of less than 0.1% was in 2021.

In value terms, imports of spices; ginger, neither crushed nor ground contracted sharply to $61M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt descent.
