The average import price for spices; cardamoms, neither crushed nor ground stood at $11,937 per ton in December 2023, remaining constant against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a notable expansion from December 2022 to December 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.0% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2023 figures, import price for spices; cardamoms, neither crushed nor ground increased by +18.5% against September 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 45% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $13,176 per ton in August 2023; however, from September 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($19,510 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($6,171 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guatemala (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for spices; cardamoms, neither crushed nor ground stood at $19,182 per ton in December 2023, increasing by 33% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a noticeable contraction. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $25,697 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to December 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Ireland ($30,519 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands amounted to $18,538 per ton.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports of Spices; Cardamoms, Neither Crushed Nor Ground in the UK

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of spices; cardamoms, neither crushed nor ground decreased by -17.5% to 879 tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 21% against the previous year.

In value terms, imports of spices; cardamoms, neither crushed nor ground dropped significantly to $11M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 65%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $20M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.
