Price for Laptop and Tablet Computer in the United States (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average laptop and tablet computer import price amounted to $473 per unit, increasing by 7.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $495 per unit in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($939 per unit), while the price for China ($415 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Price for Laptop and Tablet Computer in the United States (FOB) - 2023
The average laptop and tablet computer export price stood at $461 per unit in September 2023, flattening at the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 5.6% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $495 per unit in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($817 per unit), while the average price for exports to Colombia ($272 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Laptop and Tablet Computer in the United States
In 2022, purchases abroad of laptops and palm-top computers decreased by -17.8% to 113M units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 47%. Imports peaked at 138M units in 2021, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
