Price for Glass Fibre Chopped Strand in Germany (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average glass fibre chopped strand import price amounted to $1,360 per ton, which is down by -3.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 10% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,594 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,420 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($884 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Price for Glass Fibre Chopped Strand in Germany (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average glass fibre chopped strand export price amounted to $1,942 per ton, surging by 5.3% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 34% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $2,557 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($14,653 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($1,243 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+17.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Glass Fibre Chopped Strand in Germany
In 2022, approx. 230K tons of glass fibre chopped strands were imported into Germany; waning by -2.4% on the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 235K tons, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
In value terms, glass fibre chopped strand imports soared to $342M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +61.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports of Glass Fibre Chopped Strand in Germany
In 2022, shipments abroad of glass fibre chopped strands decreased by -9.1% to 11K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 117%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 12K tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, glass fibre chopped strand exports rose slightly to $24M in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 130% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
