Price for Ferrous Waste and Scrap; of Stainless Steel in Japan (FOB) - 2023

In November 2023, the average export price for ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels amounted to $1,113 per ton, waning by -13.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 24% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,519 per ton. From March 2023 to November 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($1,396 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($505 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2023 when the average import price increased by 18% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $3,209 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to November 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($6,027 per ton), while the price for Singapore ($473 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels decreased by -15.1% to 235K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a mild descent.
