In June 2023, the average barium sulphate (barytes); natural export price amounted to $479 per ton, reducing by -7.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a slight descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 21% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $573 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($885 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($339 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average barium sulphate (barytes); natural import price stood at $206 per ton in June 2023, increasing by 5.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 144% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $535 per ton. From April 2023 to June 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($434 per ton), while the price for Morocco ($172 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Exports of Barium Sulphate (Barytes); Natural in Spain
In 2022, shipments abroad of barium sulphate (barytes); naturals decreased by -14.9% to 47K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports continue to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 4.2% against the previous year.
