Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in France (FOB) - 2023

The average aluminium waste and scrap export price stood at $1,473 per ton in June 2023, standing approximately at the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 an increase of 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $1,625 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($2,495 per ton), while the average price for exports to Luxembourg ($785 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average aluminium waste and scrap import price stood at $2,235 per ton in June 2023, which is down by -3% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a slight setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 8% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $2,559 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($2,876 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($1,813 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Switzerland (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Exports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in France

In 2022, the amount of aluminium waste and scraps exported from France shrank to 521K tons, dropping by -8% on the year before. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 19%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 566K tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports reduced dramatically to $585M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +43.6% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $762M, and then declined sharply in the following year.
