Platinum Price in New Zealand (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average platinum import price amounted to $31.0M per ton, declining by -6.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 64% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $44.6M per ton in May 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to July 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($69.1M per ton), while the price for Japan ($30.8M per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Platinum Price in New Zealand (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average platinum export price amounted to $29.0M per ton, dropping by -7.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 19% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $33.4M per ton in May 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to July 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Australia ($30.0M per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand stood at $28.0M per ton.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+1.5%).
Platinum Imports in New Zealand
In 2022, the amount of platinum imported into New Zealand dropped dramatically to 79 kg, declining by -24% compared with 2021. In general, imports showed a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 12%.
In value terms, platinum imports contracted sharply to $2.3M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight curtailment.
